The Gorge Grown Kids: "From the Ground Up" afterschool program is a partnership between Gorge Grown Food Network Gorge Grown Kids program and Columbia Center for the Arts School's Out/Art's In After-school program.

45+ students will:
  • Design and learn metal welding techniques to create a sculpture-sprinkler for the HRMS garden
  • Craft an art-in-the-garden paper cut mural
  • Learn greenhouse and garden science
  • Engage in various garden projects
  • Use local produce and products to prepare healthy, nutritious snacks
  • Discover seed propagation and share in a seed-exchange
This program is possible due to support from the following funders: Oregon Arts Commission, Kinder Kunstler: Christina Bockius Fund, Gary M. Anderson Children's Foundation, and Hood River Cultural Trust.

Metal sculptor MacRea Wylde, teaching artist Shelley Toon Hight, scientist Todd Dierker, middle school teachers Michael Becker and Sarah Segal will lead the program.
